Social media and modern technology has indeed changed our lives. for both the better and the worse. It has made the world a smaller place, easier to reach out and connect to people, as well as made everything so accessible. Similarly, it has made us judge ourselves more harshly, and taught us to compare ourselves and give ourselves impossible goals. In all that, is it a wonder that many of us forget how to feel good about ourselves. If you’ve been feeling bad about yourself lately, and want to learn how to change that; then the below is exclusively for you…
Make a list of the things you like about yourself
We don’t know why more people are not talking about the importance of self-appreciation; especially in today’s world when nearly every person you meet has a fragile self-esteem. Make a list of the things you like about yourself; and praise yourself for them. Stand in front of the mirror as you do so for an added benefit of boosting your self-confidence. Everything from how you treat those around you, to how easily you seem to pick up languages (for example) can be included in this list. And don’t forget to add (to your list) what you like about your appearance as well…!
Do something to help someone else
There’s a special happiness that floods you when you are able to do something good for someone. It maybe something small, like helping someone cross the road, or something much bigger, like a sponsor a child; but giving and doing something for someone else without expecting anything back will definitely make your feel good about yourself. It’s ok if you don’t have much to give away; you can spend your time on them. Most cities have soup kitchens and they’re nearly always under staffed. Help out there…
Be more productive
An empty mind is a destructive mind. If you’re in between jobs, taking a break off school or even injured and home bound healing; no doubt you are feeling useless and bad about yourself. And no donation can drive this feeling away. Keep yourself occupied and force yourself to become more productive. Go to sleep early, wake up early; get a head start on your day. Have a to-do list, and finish all the tasks in it. make sure to add exercising or working out into the list; as getting the blood flowing is also a great way to make yourself feel good.
Never tell yourself you are worthless, or than you cannot learn something new. knowledge is powerful; and is one of the best ways to give your self-confidence a boost—inevitably making you feel good about yourself. Teach yourself a new language, or train yourself to learn a new skill. Try out a new sport or learn to play a different/new instrument. Challenge yourself; and make sure to praise yourself for every achievement.
